Classroom Management: Routines and Rules

Classroom Management: Routines and Rules             Instructor: J. Dykas

The 3 Big Rules:

  1. Be kind.

  2. Treat others as you would want to be treated.

  3. Be respectful of your teacher, other students, books, and the room.

    Routines:

  • Come prepared – bring binder, pens & pencils, paper, etc.

  • Be on time!

  • Remember the Zones: teacher zone, student zone, art cart, or bookcase.

  • Leave drama ‘stuff’ alone - unless you are in the Drama Club.

    Classwork and Homework:

  • All assignments must be turned in on time. Check the board for due dates and a list of all current assignments.

  • If you are absent, you will get an extra day to turn in work.

  • Talk with me if you need more time or help.

  • If an assignment is late, you lose points. After 2 weeks, you will get detentions until the work is turned in.

  • If your work is done poorly, you may be required to revise it  to receive a grade.

    Grading:

  • Assignments and tests all have a different weight and value.

    • Class work and homework = 20%

    • Vocabulary tests = 20%

    • Unit tests = 25%

    • Major projects and final exams = 35%

      Discipline:

  • Each student is treated fairly and equitably.

  • There are no warnings in this class. Each problem results in a consequence:

    • Minor problems = lunch detention, room clean up, or work detention

    • Major problems = detention, notes/calls to home, meeting with principal, or suspension

Special Requirements for English I and III:

  • 1-2 inch, 3-ring binder, lined paper, 5 tab dividers, 3-hole punch

  • 1 ream of computer paper (English classes use the most!)
